It’s a dark day for late night talk shows.
The first lady of late night comedy ended her show Chelsea Lately last night after 7 years of being on the air. Chelsea Handler was much more than a comedian and host extraordinaire. She used her blunt humour and gives-no-f–k to call celebrities out. She asked the real questions; the ones people actually cared about.
And gave the best life advice.
Basically, Chelsea was our spirit animal
But sadly Chelsea is retiring her panel, beige couch, and Chuy. And of course Chelsea wouldn’t bid farewell without putting on a big spectacle. The comedian searched through her vast address book of celebrity friends in order to have the most celeb filled television event. Seriously, there were more A-listers on Chelsea’s last show than Kimye’s wedding.
The night began with Ellen DeGeneres and a naked Chelsea taking a shower.
And then Jennifer Aniston, Sandra Bullock, and Mary McCormack gave Chelsea a well deserved intervention. This is probably the only time those three women will be seated next to each other on TV.
Chelsea’s ex 50 Cent came out and made things awkward, but also cute. I still can’t imagine these two dating.
And of course no farewell show would be complete without a performance from Hannah Montana herself. Fresh off her VMA win, Miley Cyrus appeared on the show and performed a cover of It’s Over by Roy Orbinson.
But the best part of the night was the farewell song that featured about everyone in Hollywood. Gwen Stefani, Avril Lavigne, Tim Gunn, Melissa McCArthy, Kelly Osbourne, Alanis Morrisette, Wiz Khalifa, Fergie, Naya Rivera, Gerard Butler and more all sang their personalized R rated rendition We Are The World. We can all blame Kim and Kanye, and Justin Bieber for Chelsea quitting. Interestingly enough, Selena Gomez was also singing goodbye to Chelsea. I wonder how she took the little jab at Justin Bieber and being three people away from frenemy Miley Cyrus.
And then the time came for Chelsea to make her final goodbye. But she ended the show with the news that she’s moving to Netflix. The streaming website will feature a comedy special, a series and docu-comedy specials and finally Chelsea’s talk show will air in 2016.Tweet
