Toronto’s L’Oreal Fashion Week is well underway and I was lucky enough to catch one of the shows yesterday afternoon. It was for Ginch Gonch, the uber-popular Canadian underwear brand.
Being a massive fan of ANTM, CNTM, and the various incarnations of Project Runway, I was excited to finally experience a professional Fashion Show firsthand. Walking past security with my fancy media pass was a breeze, the hoity-toity all white media lounge was lovely, and then walking into the runway tent was awesome. I was thrilled to see the professional photographers all huddled at the end of the runway, the journalists and self-important audience members mingling with each other, and all the chairs with VIP labels. To quote Iman and Tyra respectively, it was all “measuring up” to be “fierce.”
The Ginch Gonch show was one of the first of the afternoon, so luckily it wasn’t very busy – I got to snag a front row seat with gift bags! Woohoo! Although it mostly contained women’s products (Quatro razor, lubricant, fashion mag) it was still fun to root through.
The show itself dragged on a bit (like, over 20 mins of underwear can get a bit tiresome) but it offered me a lot of insight to the teachings of Reality TV – I could actually see which models made the grade and which would “no longer be in the running. to become. Canada’s Next. Top. Model.”
There definitely was some serious eye-candy though, but man-oh-man, I was oddly glad when it ended – before my self-worth was completely squashed. But there are a few days left, so maybe I can weasel my way into another show or two.
For more Fashion Week pictures and updates check out the Fashion Television site – meanwhile, I’m going to go renew my gym membership.
