Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, the upcoming fourth studio album from Versaille, France’s Phoenix, surfaced early last night, nearly three months before its May 26 release date.
While everybody’s busy orgasming over 1901, which the band released for free download via their website at the end of February, I’ve already replaced it with what’ll be the album’s first single, Lisztomania (yep, that’s a reference to Liszt, the Hungarian classical music composer). If Apple doesn’t scoop up Lisztomania for an upcoming iPod/iTunes commercial, I’d be VERY surprised. The song essentially SCREAMS ’spontaneous dance party’.
Then there’s Love Like A Sunset, which you’ll probably remember if you read my blog post from June 2008 - the band contributed a largely instrumental song that was then called Twenty One One Zero to a microsite for Cartier (the jeweller). The song’s been polished and updated and it’s now over seven minutes long, with more lyrics and elements that can be heard repeated through some of the other songs.
Oh, and let’s not forget about the gem called Girlfriend, which is a sweet, wistful spring love song that’s competing with Lisztmania for my top spot. But basically, the whole album sounds like a winner to me and I think it’s just the ticket to getting me primed for warmer weather and longer days.
