The cast and creators of The Vampire Diaries hit Comic Con this year to discuss the shocking Season 3 finale and what’s in store for Season 4. While the cast stayed mainly tight-lipped about the changes in Mystic Falls now that Elena (Nina Dobrev) has crossed over to the dead side, writer and creator Julie Plec did reveal a few tidbits about the upcoming season.

Speaking with EW, Plec told host Tim Stack that there will be a new vampire hunter in town who won’t be nearly as sympathetic as Alaric, the show’s first vampire hunter. The new resident of Mystic Falls will pose a big threat to the vampires and their friends. Plec also teased that the show will make a return to its origins, with Elena having a new secret to hide with the help of her protective friends.

The official promo released at Comic Con by the creators of The Vampire Diaries includes mostly old footage of the show, recapping the first three seasons and Elena’s resistance to the thought of ever becoming a vampire. The new footage does include scenes with Damon and Stefan, played by Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, who are torn apart again by Elena’s change.

Season 4 of The Vampire Diaries returns with brand new episodes this fall.
