Attack In Black, the whipsmart foursome from Welland, Ontario, are poised to unleash their stellar third album, Years (By One Thousand Fingertips), next week on March 10, but we want you to sample its lusciousness right away.

If you’re an AIB fan, you’ll recall that the band has had QUITE a run in the last few years - in 2007 they released TWO albums (their debut, Marriage, as well as The Curve Of The Earth) and followed the releases up with a non-stop tour alongside megawatt Canadian bands like The Tragically Hip, Constantines, The Weakerthans and Tokyo Police Club

During their “off” time, frontman Daniel Romano and guitarist Spencer Burton loaned out their multi-instrumentalist talents to buddy Dallas Green’s City & Colour album Bring Me Your Love. They provided help with everything from drums, bass, organ and mandolin to the vocals themselves.

The first track from Years (by One Thousand Fingertips), Beasts, saw its debut last week on February 24. Be sure to check out the rest of the album a week in advance, right here! I mean, you know you want to - there’s a song on the album called Slender Loris that I find absolutely intriguing - if you didn’t already know, slender lorises are essentially one of the most badass creatures in the animal kingdom.

  2. Years (by one thousand fingertips) is a very modest and humble showcasing of the new ATB sound which primarily revolves around the folk and rock and roll genre. Along with this is a collaboration of low quality sound production (not a bad thing) which gives the music a very raw and ornate sound almost as if it were being played live from the comfort of your living room. The album begins with the self titled track Years (by one thousand fingertips) which describes a very fragile way of living a very long life, very carefully by the tips of ones fingers. Years is followed by a galore of carefully scripted retellings of youthful experiences that one can almost surely relate to at least one of. The lyrics of Years touch very effectively on great themes such as lost love in “Birmingham”, anti-racism in “Leather Jacket”, and the hardships of being immune to feeling in “I’m a rock”. The music compliments the album artwork well and introduces the music in the typical ATB fashion, unpretentious. An array of sound vast beyond the imagination of any artist I’ve come into contact with thus far this year, Years (by one thousand fingertips) is a recollection of sound of Welland, Ontario that remains a collection of brilliance and organic purity in a public media standard of over production and mega fame.
