The motherlode is dropping next week on July 10 – it’s the highly anticipated album of brand new material from Smashing Pumpkins! Get this – MuchMusic.com is streaming the album in its entirety right now! Zeitgeist is the band’s first studio album since 2000′s Machina/The Machines of God. Which, as you’ll recall, wasn’t exactly a great album.
But Corgan and crew have had seven years to rejig their priorities & musical stylings, and get stuff out of their systems. In the last few years there have been many events leading up to this reunion:
2003 – Zwan.
2004 – Corgan writes a book of poetry (Blinking With Fists) and then embarks on a whirlwind book signing tour.
2005 – Corgan releases a solo album, TheFutureEmbrace.
2006 – Corgan places that ad in the Chicago Tribune announcing that he wants a Smashing Pumpkins reunion. People finally start to take notice.
2007 – Smashing Pumpkins officially announce in April that they are reuniting to record a new album. Coinciding with the release of first single Tarantula in May, a poor quality version of Zeitgeist is leaked online.
NOW – Smashing Pumpkins are set to release Zeitgeist for real this time (July 10), play Live Earth (July 7), and VirginFest in Toronto (September 9)!
Do original SP members Billy Corgan & Jimmy Chamberlin still have it? You’ll have to listen to decide for yourself!
