Absolutely everyone loves a cover song, especially when it’s done right and somehow manages to sound even better than the original version paying tribute to. So what better way to raise awareness and support for War Child than to take sixteen classic songs, some of them steeped in history and war-themed messaging, and rework them using today’s music elite?
War Child is putting out another compilation in support of it plight to help war-affected children and their families around the world. The comp’s called Heroes and the amount of talent they’ve pulled together on the album’s tracks is staggering.
You’ve got Beck’s cover of Bob Dylan’s Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat (which fans will recognize from setlists on his recent Modern Guilt tour), Hot Chip covering Joy Division, Lily Allen covering The Clash, plus megawatt stars like Franz Ferdinand, Estelle, TV On The Radio and Duffy all covering the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen, U2 and David Bowie.
The album was recorded over a six month period in cosmopolitan cities like London, Manchester, Paris, Berlin, New York and L.A., and it was mastered at the infamous Abbey Road studios.
The album’s out on March 3 (my birthday!!) and all profits will go towards helping children affected by the brutalities of war worldwide. You can stream the entire album before it’s out right here:
