First Spins Up The Wazoo!

August 21st, 2007

Holy First Spins, Batman! We don’t have just 1, nor 2, nor 3, nor 4, but 5 (yes, that’s right - FIVE) First Spins that went up on muchmusic.com today!

Where do I even begin - but with Kalan Porter of course! His new album, Wake Up Living, will no doubt be ravaged by girls and soccer-moms from province-to-province who love a buttery-voiced boy with luscious locks to boot. You’ve heard his heartfelt single “Down In Heaven” - now you can hear the whole album before it hits stores. Listen to it here.

Then there is Swizz Beatz. Granted, I had never heard of him before, but I’ve since given his album, One Man Band Man, a spin and it’s oddly refreshing. You can hear why he has “beats” in his name - could he become the new Timberland perhaps…? You can decide for yourself after listening to his album here.

JDiggz. I met this “playbwoy” in the press room earlier this year at the MMVAs. He was hanging out with MMVA award-winning director Lil X and they were both very cordial and polite, but I’m glad to hear that JDiggz’s album is anything but. Its in-your-face rhymes and beats will get the boys bumpin’ and will make the ladies swoon. Not convinced? Check it out for yourself here.

There are also some new gents on the block: The Last Goodnight. Very reminiscent of Maroon 5 but opting for a bigger and more melodic sound, these guys will do quite well in the mainstream music scene. They’ve shown up on the Much Radar and I predict will make quite the splash. I recommend this album fo’ sure. A bit schmaltzy at times, but easy on the ears and obviously well-produced, I’m curious to see where these boys end up. Take a listen here.

Then last, but not least, is Collective Soul. If you are saying “Who?” then you were probably born in 2000 (which means you are only 7-years old). These rockers have pulled themselves out of the 90s and are vying for a comeback with their new album, Afterwords. They have smartly stayed rooted in their old sound, with a hint of an update. Do they still have fans though? Are YOU still a fan? Were you ever a fan? If you need a refresher - listen to their new album here.

Doppelganger Drummer Alert! Is it just me or could Collective Soul drummer Ryan Hoyle be the father of Hedley drummer Chris Crippin?!!!

  1. Woah! Check Kalan Porter! I’ve never been one for Idol-fodder, but what the hell…that thing’s pretty solid.
