Five bands you might not know but you must see at Osheaga

July 26th, 2012

Osheaga is just a week away and you probably have your schedules all figured out already, but just in case you’re stressing out over the bands you might not be familiar with, we’ve got some recommendations for you! These bands might not be as big as headliners, The Black Keys, Snoop Dogg or Justice, but trust me, you will regret it if you miss these sets! So read up, take a listen to these bands and get to the festival bright and early for these up-and-comers!

Little Dragon

For fans of: Lykke Li, Grimes

This Swedish electro-pop band is the perfect soundtrack to the summer heat. Their songs are heavy with layers of synths and electronic beats, but light and breezy in delivery. Lead singer Yukimi Nagano’s sweet voice soothes over the super catchy dance rhythms and will leave you somewhere between daydreaming and dancing your ass off when you see them live.

Half Moon Run

For fans of: Fleet Foxes, Mumford & Sons, Local Natives

Are folk bands who sound like they would serenade you over a bonfire your go-to type of music? Then Half Moon Run would be perfect for you! Three part harmonies and a wall of warm guitar sounds always equals a good time, especially when you’re experiencing this at an outdoor festival!

Young Galaxy

For fans of: The Dears, Stars, Chairlift

Montreal’s Young Galaxy has been around for many years now, but their sound continues to evolve and escape categorization. Their most recent album, Peripheral Visionaries, was filled with dark, synth-rock jams that you can both rock out and dance to.

Poliça

For fans of: Beach House, The Dirty Projectors, Bon Iver

Sometimes when you’re outside at a hot, sunny festival, the best music to lie back and relax to is some good ole dream-pop and since Beach House isn’t on this year’s Osheaga bill, Poliça will be our dream-pop fix. Made up of members of various bands including Bon Iver (not Justin Vernon), Poliça’s slow jams won’t make you sweat from dancing – a pleasant change of pace!

The Dø

For fans of: Santigold, M.I.A.

Let’s face it; it ain’t easy to stand out nowadays. So many bands sound so similar that they come and go quicker than that ice cream truck driving down your street. Paris duo The Dø have definitely crafted their own unique sound, though and will have no problem catching your attention at this year’s Osheaga. Try something new, check these guys out!
