Avril Lavigne has a lot of ideas and we’re pretty sure most of them ended up in her new music video for her new single, Rock N Roll. This clip, which combines comic book animation with real life ass-kicking, also throws a million ideas (and one not-so-subtle product placement) into a five-minute video, so to help you digest things, we’ve broken down the top five OMG/WTF – simultaneously OMG and WTF – moments.
1. “Oh! My new Sony phone is ringing!”
This is why Avril Lavigne is a pop star and not an actress. Most product placements in music videos are often subtle, though in your face, but Lavigne really makes sure that you notice the phone she’s using, what brand it is and the nifty feature of being able to submerge it in water without it falling apart. Not that Sony suggests you leave phones in a glass of water on a regular basis. Or maybe they do, we’re going to wait for Avril to tell us more about this snazzy new product!
In this fantastical, futuristic world where “shark attacks are on the rise and the fate of rock n roll is in jeopardy,” lobsters (holding switchblades) are a lethal weapon. Or so we think until Lavigne simply picks it up and throws it aside to chase after a wanted criminal.
3. This kiss
Lavigne’s co-star in this music video is Danica McKellar, a.k.a. Winnie Cooper from the TV show, The Wonder Years. Not only are they each other’s sidekicks, but after a fatal car accident that takes the life of a dog (who was driving), the two share a passionate kiss.
4. The secret weapon
At the dog’s funeral, Lavigne discovers a secret weapon that rises from the dog’s casket: a guitar/ax-chainsaw-weapon-thing. This is the key to saving Rock N Roll! Or, the key to recreating a famous Guns N’ Roses music video where guitarist Slash plays a solo outside of a church in the middle of a desert!
5. Sharkbear attack!
We would like to have seen the pitch for this: “Avril! What about ending the video off with a showdown between you and a shark/bear hybrid!” “OMG, YES!” Someone turn this into a full-length feature film starring Tara Reid ASAP.
