Five songs that Awkward.’s Jenna Hamilton would listen to

July 11th, 2012

Every teenage girl has a playlist of tunes to get them through the awkward years of high school. We’ve been following Awkward.’s Jenna Hamilton for an entire season now so we’d like to think we know her well enough to guess what she’s hiding on her iPod. Here are five songs that we think Jenna Hamilton will jam to. You know, in between making out with Jake Rosati and Matty McKibben.

Tune in this Thursday for a new episode of Awkward. at 10:30pm ET/ 7:30pm PT right here on MuchMusic! Click here to catch up on this season of Awkward. with episodes online.

Best Coast – Boyfriend
Jenna spent all of season one pining over dreamboat Matty, hoping that he’d one day DTR (define the relationship) and become her boyfriend. There’s nothing more fitting than Best Coast’s Boyfriend then – a lazy summer jam about wanting a boy. “I wish he was my boyfriend, I wish he was my boyfriend/I love him till the very end but instead he is just a friend/I wish he was my boyfriend.” Sounds exactly like the inner thoughts of Jenna’s brain, no?

Kelly Clarkson – Stronger
Every girl needs a feel-good anthem and we definitely see this one being Jenna’s. After all the humiliations and scarring events – mostly at the hands of Sadie – this song is just the thing she needs to pick herself back up and face the world again. Just like Kelly Clarkson says, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”

Nada Surf – Popular
No one will understand the sarcasm behind this 90s hit better than Jenna, who probably feels more or less this way towards her high school experience right now. Popular is a song that mocks the idea of popularity in high school and, clearly, that’s been a running theme in Jenna’s struggle for attention/invisibility.

Robyn – Dancing On My Own
We’d like to think that this song pops into Jenna’s mind whenever she sees Matty hanging out or kissing another girl. Unfortunately, she doesn’t break out in song in dance…yet. Also, every teenage girl needs a Robyn song in her life.

The Fray – How to Save a Life
A song about troubled teens, we can definitely see this as a song suggestion from Jenna’s dear friend, counselor Valerie Marks. Also, a fun tidbit: real-life actress Ashley Rickards was actually in the video for this song!
