F**ked Up have released a cover of the Christmas classic “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”
The band used the money from their Polaris Music Prize winnings to record the song, which features vocals from Ezra Koenig (Vampire Weekend), Bob Mould (Husker Du), Tegan & Sara, Andrew W.K., GZA, Kyp Malone (TV On the Radio), Yo La Tengo, David Cross (comedian) and Kevin Drew (Broken Social Scene).
In a statement, frontman Damian “Pink Eyes” Abraham said, “It’s hard to find a balance between the song being a fun, playful holiday
classic and the reason we’re putting it out, to benefit organizations dealing with a deadly, serious issue.”
All proceeds from the song will benefit three organizations
in Canada working to bring to end to the epidemic of missing and murdered native women: Justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous
Women (Montreal), DTES Power of Women Group (Vancouver) and Sisters in Spirit (Ottawa).
You can buy the track on iTunes now.
