Even though they have a name you can’t say on TV, F**ked Up were the winners of the Polaris Music Prize in Toronto last night.
“Until the very moment they made the announcement, I thought there was no way in hell that we would win,” said frontman Damian Abraham. “This is incredible. I’m more shocked than everyone at CTV. Thanks to everyone that played on the record and Jon Drew that produced the album, everyone at Beggars / Matador, Steve Jordan and everyone at Polaris!”
Out of 10 finalists, F**ked up won the annual $20,000 prize for having the best Canadian album of the year, The Chemistry of Common Life.
The band plans on putting their winnings to good use by recording a benefit Christmas album. Says Abraham, “There are over 500 missing aboriginal women in Canada and we’re going to put out a record to try and draw some attention to it and raise some money for these people.”
