Scottish indie pop gents Franz Ferdinand are really wasting no time releasing videos from their new album, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action. Having already dropped “Right Action” and “Love Illumination,” the quartet have jumped to a third single and gone full freaky and NSFW with the spooky “Evil Eye.”
Evoking ’70s b-horror directors like Lucio Fulci and Dario Argento, the clip is comprised of VHS-tinged images that are equal parts shock, schlock and crock: withered dead bodies, severed limbs, slit, spraying throats, Mickey Mouse cannibals and lotsa blood. The band dive headfirst into the fun too, dressing up as sleazy, moustachioed goons, with Nick McCarthy sporting a detached bloody eyeball and Alex Kapranos appearing in a large man’s belly.
About the video, Kapranos said in a statement, “The video is a gruesome blood orgy eye stab death romp wide-oh creep necro fest, play this on the telly if you dare you fuckers.”
You might be surprised to learn that the clip was directed by Diane Martel, the controversial visionary behind both Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” and Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop.” She expressed her delight, saying, “This is a creepy nasty video for my dear friends and my favourite band. I’m proud to be part of this brilliant album’s visuals!”
As you can probably tell from the above image, this video has some pretty gruesome shots that might not agree with everyone’s stomach.Tweet
