Fashion isn’t always so superficial. In fact, sometimes it’s got a big conscience and a big heart. Take accessories designer Philip Crangi for example: his latest collection of earrings was made out of old AK-47s confiscated from The Democratic Republic of Congo. What was once used on assault rifles to intimidate and attack citizens, has now been turned into something beautiful. Even better: the sale of these earrings benefit non-profit organizations that work to promote an end to the violence that has rocked regions of the Congo in recent years.
Crangi says it’s all about turning something that causes so much pain into a thing of beauty. It’s certainly a good deed, but it does not come cheap – these earrings retail for $23,000 a pair.
