Funny that you ask V, as I was just cursing out my closet this morning. I admit I have been caught unprepared for this nice weather.

I have to go shopping tout de suite! There is a method to my madness, though. I’m a shopping nerd.

But let me tell you how my shopping experience of today went sour. I went to a shoe store here on Queen St to check out their selection of wallets. I didn’t find a wallet to suit my taste – but did find a bracelet, a ring and a hair accessory that I immediately wanted. I picked these items up and then proceeded to seek out a salesperson to ask about the sunglasses I had seen in the window. Before I could even get my query out – the salesgal asked me if she could have the items in my hand. Confused, I asked, “You want these? I want to buy them.” She reiterated that she wanted to hold the items. Now incredulous, I asked, “You mean, I’m not allowed to hold these items that I’m about to purchase?” I could not believe it when she replied, “Well, I’ll just hold on to them until you’re ready.”

Are you kidding me?? Maybe it was the heat. Or maybe not. I childishly stomped back to the cash loudly proclaiming, “Well, I’d better pay for these items right away – as I’m not even allowed to hold them for a minute.”

I think it’s funny that at 29 I must look like I have sticky fingers. But if even Winona can be accused…?

Oddly enough, while travelling I usually receive the opposite kind of attention. The couple of times I’ve been lucky enough to travel abroad, while shopping I was often mistaken as the salesperson. It was weird but I always chalked it up to the fact that when in a store I unconciously end up merchandising: straightening the hangers and refolding the sweaters. Damn retail jobs of my high school years – their impact remains.
