Geoff Lloyd, the former bassist of Matthew Good Band has passed away. On Sunday, Good wrote on his website about his bandmate’s death. “There are a million stories, a million memories, and threading them together thousands of miles travelled,” he said “I wouldn’t change any of it for the world, and am honoured to have not only played with him, but to have had him be a part of my life.”
Lloyd joined the Matthew Good Band in 1995 until 1999 when he left the group and was replaced by Rich Priske. Lloyd performed on the Matthew Good Band’s 1995 Last Of The Ghetto Astronauts debut album and their 1997 Underdogs breakout disc.
The cause of his death is unknown. Good said the last time he saw Lloyd was when he was recording his 2007 solo album Hospital Music. “I remember a lot of things when I think of Geoff,” Good wrote on his website. “Like me, he suffered from extreme mood swings and depression, something that he struggled with throughout his life. But, to be honest, most of the time I just remember how funny and utterly selfless he was.”
A concert fundraiser will be held this Sunday in Vancouver to help Lloyd’s widow, Lisafurr Lloyd, whose mother also passed away two weeks ago. In the years since he left Matthew Good Band, Lloyd was the frontman for Vancouver’s Slipjacks and helped reopen the Vancouver venue The Cobalt in 2006 with his wife.
