Need to know: It has been roughly more than five years since the release of George Nozuka’s first studio album, Believe. Better known as George, the Canadian musician was a heartthrob to many girls during 2006 as a singer, guitar and piano player and dancer. He was also a frequent visitor to MuchMusic, from winning MMVAs to celebrating his birthday with Much’s VJ alumni Leah Miller on Much On Demand. Who could forget that moment when Leah gave George condoms for his birthday?! A couple of years went by and it became George who? His success mysteriously became a one hit wonder. Dedicated fans even questioned his brother, talented musician Justin Nozuka, about the return of George. On Twitter, Justin hinted that George would be coming out with a new album. Since then, George has been hard at work. He co wrote a song on fellow Canadian Justin Bieber’s Under The Mistletoe album titled Home This Christmas featuring The Band Perry and now has released a mixtape titled Love Me. Released on February 29 using his Twitter (@georgenozuka), George tweeted out a link that shows his return to the music scene.
In 150 words or less: In collaboration with a music production/songwriting trio located in Toronto called ThaSmashBroz, George sings of love, sex, and drugs. The eight track mixtape sounded familiar as certain songs were a reminder of the old George. Using beat driven ballads, Georges voice is strong, making the use of auto tune on some tracks unnecessary. From his lyrics it’s clear that George is letting listeners know he has matured from his debut album. The lasting fans will appreciate this George comeback, but it may take more than this release for new listeners to warm up to him.
