Back in the old days, the only way to salute a slow song was by waving your lighter and rocking back and forth to the power ballad like it really meant something to you.

In modern times, however, the trends have shifted and the lighter is no longer recognized, large in part because of smoking bans at most concert venues. This paved the way for the impersonal and far too technologically advanced replacement, the cell phone.

Well, you know how that guy who isn’t Paul Rudd says there’s an app for everything on the iPhone ad? There is now an app screensaver of a lighter designed to meet you halfway while you’re swaying to “Beth” at the Kiss concert.

Not surprisingly, Kiss have their own personalized virtual lighter, which looks a bit like a Zippo. But so does Lil Wayne, which means you can try it while your nodding to “A Milli,” if you like.

Also available are lighters bearing the logo of The Who, Kings Of Leon, Poison and some tacky Woodstock anniversary tribute.

As the designer Spark of Blue says, “it’s more than just a lighter.” (But we all know it really isn’t.)
