I was a little shocked that it actually rained several times on our visit to Ethiopia. However, as we discussed with Rosemary, the rains had come too late and were not nearly heavy enough to solve the very serious problems the country faces. From my privileged position, I began to put myself in the shoes of the resilient women I was meeting across the country.
I couldn’t imagine struggling at this very basic level and my sadness turned to motivation fueled by anger on how to truly help. I was grateful to be capturing these powerful images that I knew would be viewed by Canadians and hopefully inspire them to donate.
The point isn’t to guilt people into caring or to insinuate that Africa needs ‘saving’. The truth is that Africa needs your help and if you can, why not give?
