Gleecap: Hell-O

We counted down the months, the weeks, the days, and even the minutes until everyone’s favorite new show Glee hit the airwaves again tonight. And guess what? They’ve got nine new episodes, to satisfy our Glee cravings until June 8th. Well, I’m back, friends, and guess what? I’ll be glee-capping your little hearts out all season long.

Onwards to see what I thought about the first new episode since the hellatus hiatus.

So, this week’s episode was called Hell-O, as in Hell-O, we are back! Or it may or may not have something to do with the club singing all “hello” songs. The pressure is officially on for New Directions to make it to Regionals, and some new guest stars have been added to the roster to make everything more interesting.

It seemed like there were a lot of hookups and breakups this week, also playing with the whole “hello” “goodbye” theme. Finn & Rachel said goodbye, only to disappoint all of us Finchel fans. But Rachel said hello to the newest Glee guest star Jonathan Groff, who plays Jesse St. James, the star of Vocal Adrenaline, the Glee club’s ultimate rivals. Did you guys know that Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff were real life friends before John came on Glee, because the two starred on Broadway in Spring Awakening together? I could tell they had chemistry the second John stepped on screen. These two characters are too much alike to not be together, and still hope they do despite the fact that he’s using her somehow to get his team ahead. Can you say low? I’m still deciding if it was fair of New Directions to kick Rachel out of the club for dating Jesse. Things got a bit awkward between Will & Emma. I don’t see this one lasting guys. I think that Will’s gonna keep it steamy with the director of Vocal Adrenaline, Shelby. Who knows, maybe this is related to Jesse’s fake-out with Rachel?

I was surprised, besides her usual poking fun of Will’s hair, Sue wasn’t in this episode as much as I thought she’d be. I mean, she tried to get Brittany & Santana to seduce Finn, so Rachel would be distracted, but that became irrelevant. I’m happy she did sneak her way out of her suspension, though. What would Glee be without Sue?

Also having to do with the hello goodbye theme was the setlist. The show incorporated a great mix of old and new hello songs this week, from Lionel Ritchie’s “Hello” to The All-American Rejects’ “Gives You Hell”. The show finished off with a perfectly awkward version of the Glee club’s take on a classic Beatles song, “Hello Goodbye”. I was slightly disappointed with this one. Probably because I was just so excited, and let down by Rachel & Finn’s complete awkwardness. Besides that little problem, it was a perfect way to end the show.

Overall, this week’s episode kicked some serious hiatus. No disappointments from me, that’s for sure. I’m super duper excited about the next eight episodes ahead, and I hope that us Gleeks never have to deal with such a long wait for episodes ever again.
