Start spreading the news…New Directions are in New York for Nationals! They wanted to be a part of it and trust me, they were. The season finale of Glee’s second season took New York by storm in what was arguably the most eventful and just plain epic episode of the season. Let’s break down all the awesome (and not so awesome) stuff that happened, shall we?
They sang original songs!
It worked for Regionals, so why not try it again? The club had a bit of trouble at first composing songs (“My Cup” may have been worse than Rachel’s earlier offender “My Headband”) but after going out and exploring the city, the songs just came out. We saw another Finn and Rachel duet, joined in by the rest of the club. The original songs just keep getting better and better.
Rachel, and Kurt getting to sing on a broadway stage!
The two first planned a Breakfast at Tiffany’s on a budget but then decided to sneak into Wicked. After getting caught by security they still were given 15 minutes on the stage. Of course they did a duet of “For Good” from Wicked, reminiscent of when the two sang “Defying Gravity” last season. How cool was that?
Mr. Schue’s not going to broadway!
Thanks to a tip from Vocal Adrenaline Coach Goolsby, New Directions found out Mr. Schue’s secret summer plans. And in true Mr. Schue fashion he decided not to go and put more attention on the club. Even after he got a chance to sing on stage he expressed his true compassion for his kids and put his dreams on hold. Maybe someday…
New Directions didn’t even place…
Even after their attempt at original songs, New Directions still couldn’t measure up to the awesomeness that is Vocal Adrenaline. It was heartbreaking to see the disappointment on the kids’ faces. Maybe we have ex-McKinley student turned Vocal Adrenaline star Sunshine Corazon to thank for their loss. Especially after Rachel encouraged her to get up on stage despite her nerves. But it was nice to see the club rejoice and celebrate once they got home.
Blaine and Kurt love each other!
At a coffee date back in Ohio, Blaine told Kurt he loved him after Kurt explained how great New York was despite their loss. And yup, Kurt told him he loved him back! These two have come so far this season…from meeting at the beginning of the season to now being in love and pretty much the perfect couple.
Samcedes! But shhhh, it’s a secret.
This didn’t happen until the end of the episode but Blaine and Kurt bumped into Mercedes and Sam at the coffee shop. The two claimed they just bumped into each other in the parking lot, but then we saw the two talking about how no one knows and holding hands. I’m sorry, but who are we kidding here? He asked her to dance at prom, so this wasn’t really a surprise.
Finchel is back, yo!
Yes! Yes! Yes! Although Rachel claimed she was going on a boyfast (including Jesse), she went on a super-romantic “professional” date with Finn who made it clear it wasn’t professional when he tried to kiss her. But she rejected, claiming she couldn’t right now. So Finn did the unthinkable…kissed her on stage at Nationals after their duet! It was pretty awkward, especially with Jesse in the audience. And even more awkward was Jesse’s confrontation with the pair after, when he claimed that would cost them the competition. Even though Finn thought everyone hated him for blowing it for them, Rachel found him in the library and assured him that wasn’t the case. She also told him she wanted to go to New York for college, but Finn pointed out they still have a year together and kissed her again! But this time, she was totally into it. And now we can all have a great summer knowing that Finchel is back.
Wow, what a season of Glee. Let’s hope season 3 is even better!
