Gleecap: The Sue Sylvester Shuffle

February 7th, 2011

Glee returned Sunday with a Super Bowl episode that brought the heat…literally! Featuring the McKinley High football championships, the show added its usual mix of Glee make-ups, break-ups, dangerous stunts and Michael Jackson dance moves.

After an over-the-top performance of “California Girls” by the Cheerios (Blue wigs, flaming chests and all) Coach Sue found herself in a rut. Turns out she needs to constantly top herself every year. So she thinks ‘what better way to win the cheer-leading championships than with a human-shooting cannon firing dim-witted Brittany?

On the other side of the field the football team couldn’t function because of all of the inter-team bullying. Also translate that as Glee/football team members fighting the homophobe Karofsky. Coach Bieste and Mr. Schue decided on an ultimatum: all the football players must join the Glee club for one week or they’re off the team. Neither side was happy (mainly because of what Karofsky did to Kurt) and let their fists fly at the first combined meeting.

Rachel and Puck showed everyone what Glee club is really about with their beautiful rendition of “Need You Now,” (also doubling as a plot to make Finn jealous). That part worked, but the football team still wasn’t convinced Glee would boost their reputation. Mr. Schue’s next bright idea was using the team for a combined performance at the football championship half-time show with a mash-up of “Thriller” and “Heads Will Roll,” and lots of zombie costumes and makeup.

Put the pieces together and you have the coolest way to showcase the Glee club!

Rehearsals were great and everyone got into it. Even Karofsky suggested an all-male opening number to “She’s Not There.” Then entered Sue! She moved the Cheerios’ regional competition to coincide with the football championships, forcing the Cheerios on the Glee club to decide which team to perform with AKA permanently giving their loyalty to.

Choosing their reputations Quinn, Santana and Brittney sided with Sue and quit Glee. Also leaving Glee in the dust? The football team decided embarrassing themselves dancing at halftime wasn’t worth the football team or getting a slushy-facial. Coach Bieste turned the tables and said if they quit one, they quit both.

The whole high school hit rock bottom with no football team in the championships. But it’s the Glee girls to the rescue as they stepped up and joined the team (only after Finn agreed all they would do is lie down). Crazy thinking but it was their only hope.

Even with their help they were falling behind. Always the leader Finn knew he had to set a plan in motion to get all the Glee-haters back on the team. He sent Puck to talk to the missing members and convince them to dance at halftime. It worked for all the players except Karofsky who refused to dance. Finn rounded up the missing Cheerios who dropped out of cheer-leading for good so they could be in Glee.

During the much-anticipated “Thriller/Heads Will Roll,” performance Karofsky joined right in. And so the McKinley High football team was back in full swing and came out with a win!

The future of the football players on Glee is still unclear. Karofsky claimed he wasn’t joining the team for good. This may have something to do with Finn asking him to apologize to Kurt. Speaking of Kurt, we got a glimpse of the Dalton Warblers gearing up for Regionals and showing no signs of weaknesses performing “Bills Bills Bills” in their choir room. We also saw a kiss between Finn and Quinn which will most likely be explained further during the new episode airing this Tuesday!
