The cast of Gossip Girl
Reasons why Gossip Girl, a new book-turned-TV-series that premieres on September 19 on CTV & CW this fall, is going to be HUGE:
- it’s based on a series of super popular novels by Cecily von Ziegesar
- it’s narrated by Kristen Bell (aka Veronica Mars)
- it’s executive produced by Josh Schwartz (The O.C.)
I feel like Gossip Girl could totally be North America’s version of the UK’s Skins (WHICH, btw, comes out on DVD on September 24, at which point both Soja & I will promptly purchase it).
Basically it’s a 13-episode series about a group of socialite young adults growing up on New York’s Upper East Side who have to contend with hard hitting issues like sex, drugs & popularity.
Oh, did I mention that it stars Blake Lively (WHO I LOVE! - in the pic above she’s the one sitting on the floor), one of the stars of Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants? I totally stalked her when TSOTTP crew came by MOD a couple years ago…she’s just so classy AND funny.
Also, I read an interview with Chace Crawford (who’s like a Zac Efron type - sitting behind Blake in the pic above) in this month’s Teen Vogue in which he says he had no idea how big of a deal Gossip Girl was going to be until he told his little sister and her friends that he was starring in it, and they (being big fans of the book series) freaked the fk out. Chace is a total heartthrob, and he plays mysterious prepster Nate Archibald, who’s torn between two of the show’s female lead characters.
I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THIS SHOW!

I guess to start it’s 13 episodes - ie season 1 is 13 episodes long

Nakedness, foul language, all around rowdiness. It has it all.
Some dimwit tv network exec will try to co-opt it for american tv and will suck the life right out of it!
Do yourself a favour and get season 1 right now.

@ Idiotjed: SOOOOO true. i LOOOOOVE “Skins” - everyone should watch it. Entertaining & definitely ground-breaking, the Brits definitely have it figured out. Maybe “Gossip Girl” will have a hint of that flavour…? We’ll just have to wait and see, but American TV would NEVER air something as edgy as “Skins”… So sad. Maybe Canada would though… (if they had proper funding, that is).

I think they will just start off with 13 episodes and if it’s a big hit (which it will be)then they will continue on with it, and if they don’t I’ll have to eat someone.

MM yeah I’m totally freakin out for the show too. Whys it only going to be 13 episodes??? There is so much storyline in the books that they could have way more. And why isn’t Vanessa in the TV show?
