Most Glee fans were beyond excited when they found out the hit show would be covering Gotye’s smash hit “Somebody That I Used To Know” in the epsiode titled “Big Brother” which aired April 10th. As if that wasn’t enough the song would be sung by Darren Criss AKA Blaine Anderson, and guest star Matt Bomer who plays Blaine’s wannabe actor older brother, Cooper. *Le swoon*
The episode is centred around Blaine and Cooper as they try to reconnect since Cooper has found success in LA being the face of a credit score company commercial. The song is fitting since both of them have been a part for so long and are now living in two different worlds. The performance satisfied most fans and has over 8 million views on You Tube, but one person in particular isn’t happy with the cover.
Gotye himself gave his opinion on the cover and according to Billboard.com, he told the Sunday Mail that ”They did such a faithful arrangement of the instrumentals but the vocals were that pop “Glee” style, ultra-dry, sounded pretty tuned and the rock has no real sense,” and it’s “like it’s playing to you from a cardboard box.”
Yikes! What are your thoughts on the cover? Do you think Gotye is right? Have your say in the comments below!
