You know what’s better than one documentary? Why, two of course! Green Day have announced not one, but two documentaries that will accompany the release of their three upcoming albums, which will be released between September and January. They really don’t like releasing just one thing, do they? We’re not complaining though. This just means more Green Day for us!
One of the documentaries will feature old footage of the group from the 90′s, before their 1994 groundbreaking album, Dookie. The other film will feature the making of their upcoming albums, Uno!, Dos! and Tre!.
“It’s not going to be the sitting down, head shot of me going, ‘We started out blah blah blah’,” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong told Billboard. “We wanted to get into lifestyles of rock & roll and playing rock & roll and letting the story kind of tell itself rather than create revisionist [history].”
The two directors, Tim Lynch, who worked with Green Day on their Bullet in a Bible DVD and Tim Wheeler, who co-producer of The White Stripes’ film Under the Great White Northern Lights, are still shooting footage of the band as they prepare for their upcoming tour, but hope to have the films ready for a premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.
