While everyone (myself included) is excited and happy for the latest No Doubt album Push and Shove dropping on September 24th, it seems that no one is more amped up on this than No Doubt front woman Gwen Stefani. In the decade between records, Gwen had released two solo albums, Love. Angel. Music. Baby. and The Sweet Escape, both of which were pretty successful as they each received Grammy nominations. However despite her personal success, Gwen shot down her work in an interview with The Guardian saying, “The solo records allowed me to indulge my girly side but it was never meant to be taken seriously.” Gwen continued, “It was just like an art project that kept going longer than I expected… The group never ended – we always knew we’d come back to make this album.”
Again, I’m ecstatic that No Doubt is back with a vengeance, but by telling people that her work wasn’t meant to be taken seriously, Gwen undermines the effort she put into two albums, two worldwide tours, promotional duties, and not to mention the attention to detail and the crafting of the whole concept behind the albums (don’t you remember her Harajuku dancers?). Gwen, we love it all! We want more of it and we are serious about your work (it meant a lot to a lot of us).
What do you guys think? Are you going to cop the new No Doubt album when it comes out? Let us know in the comments section below and check out No Doubt’s video for Settle Down here.
