“Harry Potter” Was A Book First…?

First, let me start off saying that I have never read a single Harry Potter book. Gasp, I know. I’m one of those annoying people who just goes to see the movies, cheapening the whole experience for all the die-hards. But what can I say? I’m illiterate. Movies help me get all edumacated.

So I just got out of a screening of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Hm. I think it’s important to point out that this movie is definitely decent. It’s entertaining, and it falls into line with the four movies that have come before it - the sad thing is, it’s not as good as the previous four. Maybe this is because I haven’t read the books - I wasn’t always sure what really was going on. Something about these globes of prophecies and being connected to the mind of Who-We-Don’t-Speak-Of or something. I just really didn’t get all the magical details - maybe because I’m a muggle.

Other than that, the effects and the performances are great. Alan Rickman as Snape steals every scene he’s in - every syllable he utters makes me laugh. And Imelda Staunton as the evil Dark Arts professor Dolores Umbridge is both hilarious and terrifying. And of course Daniel Radcliffe is back as his “same old same old, always confused, always dealing with his parents’ death” Harry - he’ll be 45 when the series is finally over, but he’s a trooper dammit. Unfortunately though, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are relegated to the sidelines this time around - they just kind of stand there, smiling.

Overall, I had a fun (albeit somewhat confusing) afternoon at Hogwarts. Now if only I would learn to read…

  1. Were you at the 12pm screening at ScotiaBank theatre? I was on my way to work and saw Ron Weasley outside. It was pretty cool, I was surprised more people weren’t there, why the hell didn’t people anounced that he was gonna be there? He maybe isn’t that huge of a star, but the movies he is in are.

  3. paramount cheated the harry potter fans who came early!!! people who were there at 7 am didn’t get an autograph at all from rupert grint and were ushered into the theatre before he even came on the red carpet. PARAMOUNT IS CHEAP!

  5. hahaha I thought it was really good and amazingly special as always, probably cause I’m obsessed just a little too much, so what was I hearing that Rupert Grint was there at Paramount?, which paramount?. Loll anyways yea I was at the 3:45 at the Scotia bank one in the 3DImax…it was pretty cool because It was 3D when the part came towards the Voldemort scene. Only bad part was it was too short only like 2 hours and 15 minutes the shortest one out of all of them o.0 *sigh* oh well i still think it was awesome.

  6. LOL, I’m going to go see it on saturday..

You should read the books though, the movies leave like a million things out o_O

  7. I’ve read all of the Harry Potter books twice and I’m so excited because i’m going to go see the 5th movie today. I hope it’s good but i read a review saying it wasn’t as good as the other 4 so i hope i won’t be disappointed!

  8. I didn’t hear about the apperance Rupert made either I would have liked to see him in person as well. I’ve read all the books and this was one of my least favorite. I’m glad that they shortened it and I agree if you haven’t read the books you wouldn’t really get what Voldermont wanted or why he wanted it. I would disagree with the fact that its not as good as the first movies. I really think visually each movie gets better and better. Alan Rickman portraying Snape is FABULOUS and I love him in every scene and movie. His portrayal of Snape is EXACTLY how I imagined Snape to be and I think Alan should win an award for his work. I have to admit I wasn’t too excited for the movie, I am more excited for the final book. NINE MORE DAYS !

  9. I’m surprised no one knew about the Rupert Grint apperance, well actually not really, because no one said a thing, I just heard from my sister the night before, have no idea how she knew.

He was there around 10:45am at the Toronto ScotiaBank Theatre. Anyone go to the 12pm showing at that theatre? He must have went inside to introduce the movie or something.

  10. I personally thought it was really good. some parts they missed out like rons quitdich tryouts and other things.

  11. I saw the movie the day it came out and I sorta finally understand the whole, or should I say most of the things that r happening. I read the books but as we know, books are not like the movies, but I found it really interesting. But the fighting sceane between Voldemort and Dumbledore was shorter. In the book it was like 2 chapters long! But i enjoyed it was one of the best!
