First, let me start off saying that I have never read a single Harry Potter book. Gasp, I know. I’m one of those annoying people who just goes to see the movies, cheapening the whole experience for all the die-hards. But what can I say? I’m illiterate. Movies help me get all edumacated.
So I just got out of a screening of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Hm. I think it’s important to point out that this movie is definitely decent. It’s entertaining, and it falls into line with the four movies that have come before it – the sad thing is, it’s not as good as the previous four. Maybe this is because I haven’t read the books – I wasn’t always sure what really was going on. Something about these globes of prophecies and being connected to the mind of Who-We-Don’t-Speak-Of or something. I just really didn’t get all the magical details – maybe because I’m a muggle.
Other than that, the effects and the performances are great. Alan Rickman as Snape steals every scene he’s in – every syllable he utters makes me laugh. And Imelda Staunton as the evil Dark Arts professor Dolores Umbridge is both hilarious and terrifying. And of course Daniel Radcliffe is back as his “same old same old, always confused, always dealing with his parents’ death” Harry – he’ll be 45 when the series is finally over, but he’s a trooper dammit. Unfortunately though, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are relegated to the sidelines this time around – they just kind of stand there, smiling.
Overall, I had a fun (albeit somewhat confusing) afternoon at Hogwarts. Now if only I would learn to read…Tweet
