Dev Hynes has been killin’ it over the last year. While his debut album under his indie/R&B moniker Blood Orange didn’t quite take off when he released his 2011 album, Coastal Grooves, some high profile production work has made him one of the most in-demand producers around. He co-wrote and produced two of last year’s greatest songs – Solange’s “Losing You” and Sky Ferreira’s “Everything is Embarrassing” – and most recently showed his stuff on “Flatline,” the first single by the original Sugababes, Mutya Keisha Siobhan.
While he’s reported to be working on both new albums by Solange and Britney Spears, it’s his own album as Blood Orange that we should be most excited about. Hynes revealed back in June that the album is finished and will be called Cupid Deluxe, and now today he has released a mixtape of the influences that helped shape the album.
Hynes writes, “This is a mixtape I have made to describe the influences, samples and features from the forthcoming Blood Orange album, Cupid Deluxe. It features edits, dubs, remixes, live vocals, from myself and varying others. Unreleased songs, live instrumentation and lots of stupid talking. Any questions you may have please feel free to ask, but for the most part, this should really answer a lot, if not all queries. Well, hope you enjoy it. Kick back and tune in.
ps. due to the crazy amount of dubs I did, this shit’s quiet, so turn it up. If you want a tape version, message me.”
