Hello? Hello? Is anyone out there in TV and web-land?
It’s me – Hannah Sung! How are you all? I’ve missed you. Well, I’ve missed some of you. Others, I’ve finally had the chance to meet! Let me explain…
When I left Much (*sniff*) in August, I left to produce a video documentary with CARE Canada’s youth initiative, YouthCARE. We went to Indonesia and East Timor. It was incredible.
When I got back, I busily began editing all the footage as we had only two weeks before we would hit the road! We went out east to the maritimes (hello Upper Miramichi! hello St. Malachy’s in St. John, NB! hello to everyone!) and I took the documentary into classrooms and assemblies in so many schools I’ve lost count. It has been so fun! I’ve had a great time actually talking WITH you rather than AT you (plus, it’s nice to not have to talk about Paris and Spederline).
After the maritimes, we did Ottawa (shout out to Canterbury and Woodroffe! and all the schools that had me come out!).
I’ve always thought that our society doesn’t give young people enough credit. This tour proved it to me. You are all so thoughtful and intelligent. There’s this perception that you don’t care about world issues. Well, it’s just not true!
So to thank all of you and to have a bit of fun (AND raise some cashola at the same time!) I’ve decided that we need to have an all-out daytime par-tay. You are all invited! I called the event RADIO OPERA: A Benefit Concert for CARE Canada after a radio program called Radio Opera in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, one of the places I visited. I was very inspired by the work that CARE Canada does in the developing world. And I wanted to connect us in a very real way.
The money raised through ticket sales at RADIO OPERA will go towards humanitarian aid in East Timor. They need it. Dili, East Timor is a place that has affected me tremendously. I’d love for you all to google what’s going on there. I will tell you that they need our help.
And by coming to our show, you ARE helping! Fancy that! A good time and a good cause. The Constantines, the rockin’est band I know, and Jason Collett, a man who once took me on a tour of Bramalea and actually made it fascinating (wow!), are both on the bill. Plus, my fave Toronto DJ Rory Them Finest and your fave crazy lady Sabrina Jalees. How can you go wrong?
See you all there! I’d love to meet more of you. Come say hi.
xoxo,
Hannah
