Miley, Charlie and more!
February 20th, 2014
The BRIT Awards went down last night in London, England, and a lot happened. And since we know missing out on an entire award show can be daunting to go back and watch, we’ve taken the liberty of writing a little Coles Notes recap for you! With our easy, quick headlines, you can get caught up in no time just for those water cooler conversations!
Jessie J showed up looking like this
Look, we can maybe get behind the skin-tight jumpsuit ensemble, but those lips… It looks like she rubbed Easter on those lips.
Ellie Goulding is the queen of BRITs
Not only did the British star take home the prize for Best British Female Solo Artist, but she also gave a phenomenal performance of her Calvin Harris hit I Need Your Love and Burn. Ellie Goulding is the real deal in England and we can totally see why.
Goulding also made some friends after the show
Every single one of these photos is uh-mazing. Ellie Goulding + Lorde + Katy Perry + Angel Haze = WHAT THE WHAT, CAN WE JOIN YOU PLEASE?
Oh hi, Sam Smith!
Our fave newcomer also got in on the hangs after winning the Critics’ Choice BRIT Award.
Arctic Monkeys are rock ‘n’ roll icons now
Taking home the prize for Album of the Year, the British rockers made quite the impression with their grandiose acceptance speech where lead singer Alex Turner states that rock ‘n’ roll “will never die and there’s nothing you can do about it.”
Beyonce pretty much just stood onstage and blew us all away
Bastille’s a big deal
While we were scratching our heads thinking who the heck these guys were, Bastille was apparently reigning the music scene across the pond. Like Imagine Dragons, but with more drums. Yes, that is possible. Oh, also Rudimental are really great. Take note, North Americans!
Katy Perry was a neon raver
Performing her latest single Dark Horse, the pop star rocked a neon-raver-meets-Cleopatra look complete with all of the lasers. If we were lookin’ for a fun club back in the Egyptian days, we’d totally run over to Katy’s joint.
Pharrell is still gettin’ lucky
The robots weren’t present last night, but the legendary Nile Rodgers joined Pharrell onstage to get funky to a medley of Get Lucky, Good Times and his Oscar-nominated track Happy.
Bruno Mars did the same thing he always does
Charm the pants off of everyone with his spot-on performance of Treasure.
Lordeclosure was born
Lorde and Disclosure collaborated on the New Zealand star’s hit single Royals and we’re gonna admit that we are absolutely in love with this version. Lordeclosure FTW!
And last but not least: Kristen Wiig and her boy band were there
Yeah, these guys.
