Hip-Hop isn’t dead, it’s bigger than ever.
I’m not arguing with Nas, and especially not with ‘Kast, but I don’t think they’re looking at it the right way.
For every Crank Dat there’s a The People. Don’t forget Common debuted at number one in the U.S. and Kanye beat 50 Cent. The simpler dance-style Hip-Hop is everywhere, but so is the intelligent Hip-Hop.
The reason people are saying Hip-Hop is dead is because it’s bigger than it’s ever been. Hip-Hop brought us the Black Eyed Peas and Timbaland, and the Backstreet Boys of the 90s have become the Shop Boyz of ’07.
All it means is Hip-Hop is winning.
