Hipster-Hop

Nahright.com has a pretty topical argument going on where people are arguing over hipster rap. (fyi: it’s a new sub-genre of hip-hop where people basically wear tighter pants). So anyway, what’s the deal with this? In the age of the internet it seems kinda ridiculous to try and come up with genres and sub-genres because everything is getting mashed together anyway, and it almost seems like people are labelling certain artists with the hipster tag just to hate on them. I don’t get it, are people afraid they will be tricked into liking music that they feel shouldn’t be enjoyed? And if you really don’t like it then wouldn’t that be impossible anyway?

Personally, I don’t care what anyone wears or what they look like, it’s like Tru-Paz says, “if the music’s tight you’re all right.” So give it up already with labels and just listen to what you want (unless it’s “screamo”, that term makes me laugh for some reason) And if liking The Cool Kids makes me a hipster … well … no, I’’m still not a hipster.
