The White Stripes have just announced two ways to catch their tour documentary Under Great White Northern Lights before their pricey box set comes out on March 16.
Several theatres in Toronto, Ottawa, Edmonton, Saskatoon and Sydney, N.S. will show the movie in special sneak peak screenings.
But the coolest way you can see the film is to host your own screening on White Stripes Day, March 16. For $30 you can buy a screening kit on their website which includes a copy of the DVD, popcorn and peppermint swirl candy. The White Stripes’ website says they will also give prizes to people who send in pictures with the most creative parties. $30 may seem steep but it is a lot cheaper than the $259.99 for the box set.
The movie chronicles The White Stripes’ 2007 Canadian tour, during which the band challenged itself to play a show in every province and territory in Canada. The duo not only played the bigger gigs, but played several “sideshows” in small towns or in obscure venues such as a tribal elder community centre in Iqaluit, and the front of a city bus in Winnipeg. The director, Emmett Malloy, most recently directed the star-studded video for Vampire Weekend’s “Giving Up the Gun”
