Last night marked the highly anticipated return of Hot Chip – last time the Brits were in town in November 2006 at Mod Club, it was a total shitfest. The venue was at capacity before the openers even went on, and people who had tickets weren’t being allowed inside. This time around, things were a little more controlled – blame it on a bigger venue and less spastic album. Or so I thought.

The guys treated us to 90 minutes of total dance mayhem. I wasn’t right ‘in the shit’ but even from where I was standing, everyone was a sweaty mess. They came out promptly at 10:15 and kicked off with Shake A Fist, the sinister yet danceable first single from their newest album, Made In The Dark. The sound quality last night was truly magical. They sounded SO good; really true to studio.

I was especially thrilled that the final Hot Chip song of the night was my absolute favourite, No Fit State. I was happily singing/dancing along when the song changed, yet I still knew all the lyrics…New Order’s Temptation. AKA my favourite New Order song. Ever. AMAZING. And then the finale was a cover of Prince/Sinead O’Connor’s Nothing Compares 2U, which had everyone in the room singing along with every word.

I’ve got a couple of gaps in my setlist below, but from what I can remember, they only played three songs from The Warning and one from Coming On Strong, their 2004 debut. I would have loved to have heard Careful and of course, The Warning. Despite not hearing the latter, Hot Chip did indeed break legs and snap off heads last night!
