Named after their fourth album released during the summer of 1996, Beats, Rhymes and Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest is a documentary that explores the musical career of one of hip hop’s pioneering rap troupes. Rare and forgotten footage of the group’s early beginnings, the falling out between Q-tip and Phife, and an inside look into the current lives of the disbanded members are just some of the dug up stories that director Mike Rapaport pieces together in this film. Some other legends and close music colleagues featured in this doc include De La Soul, the Jungle Brothers, Monie Love, and the Beastie Boys.
Screening in Toronto during the Hot Docs festival, this sold out documentary will be premiering tomorrow, Saturday, April 30th, 6:30pm at the Tiff Lightbox Theatre. The only way to be one of the first to catch this film is to line up early and attempt to score on some Rush Tickets, and rumor has it 100 spots are available for you ATCQ eager beavers.
