How great is Kenny Rogers anyway? Not just for his impeccable style which inspired many husky divorced men worldwide, but for the tunes. From the first time you heard “The Gambler” you knew Kenny was taking it to a whole other level of the game. They’ve made five TV movies based on “The Gambler”. How many TV movies have been made from your song, tough guy? None, that’s how many. (Unless you are Kenny Rogers, in which case I apologize for calling you “tough guy” like that.) Kenny is like the Ice Cube of AM radio country or something. And if you still don’t believe me about the greatness of Kenny yet, check out his sleazy psychedelic single with The First Edition, “I Just Checked In To See What Condition My Condition Was In”, which was featured in the dream sequence in The Big Lebowski.
How great are The Coachwhips anyway? Their new album, “Bangers Vs. F***ers” is 18 minutes of the most stripped down, no-frills, primal, stomping good-time punk rock since The Mummies hung up their bandages. So how great are Kenny Rogers and The Coachwhips? Pretty great, that’s how great.
