How to have Holiday fun for (almost) free

The Holiday’s are upon us. Whether we have a break from school, a break from work, or a break from our healthy eating choices, this time of year can get expensive. We’ve come up with a list of ways to have fun for free…or at least pretty close.

Get Outside

It’s that time of year when we must embrace the great (cold) outdoors. Skating, snow shoeing, sledding, skiing, snowboarding, snowball fights, polar bear dips and snow forts can only happen once a year. Put on five layers, pack some hot chocolate and remind yourself why recess was so much better as a kid when there was snow on the ground.

Party Pot Luck

Pot lucks are possibly the best party idea ever. They’re inexpensive and you tend to have a ton of food left over. Tell your friends to bring their best dish to your place and eat the night away.
*Hint – If you host the par-tay you can keep the left-ovahs!

Window Shopping

It may sound boring and it also might cause you to wish you could re-do your letter to Santa Claus, but some cities really go all out with their impressive window displays. Creepy manequins are replaced with tiny Santa villages. I like feeling like a giant once a year.

Volunteer

There is no better time of year to give! Go through your closet and donate gently used clothing you no longer wear. Donate food, toys, clothes and household goods to your local charity for those less fortunate. Is someone buying you a gift? Can’t figure out what to get your friends and family this year? Why not check out the Me to We site. Everything bought from this amazing organization means that you’re helping plant a tree, give a child a book and more. It’s always more fun to give than receive!

MuchMusic Baking

Sure, making snowmen and presents out of icing on your cookies is fun. But why not make some cookies in honour of your favourite show? Use icing to draw a stiletto for Gossip Girl, pom poms for Hellcats, school uniforms for Degrassi, fangs with blood for The Vampire Diaries and a cell phone for Pretty Little Liars.
