Miley, Charlie and more!
February 26th, 2014
It’s been ten years this month since Sex and the City aired its finale episode, which also means its been ten years since my high school boyfriend hung up on me after I called him while sobbing so hard my voice was unrecognizable as a result of said episode. In what was one of the greatest finales ever for a show that was full of hilarious and touching life lessons, we said good bye to Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda…until the first movie came out. I’m not counting the second SATC. It’s like seeing a character take off their costumed head at Disney. Happiness can be ruined so quickly.
Anywho, in the ten years since SATC aired its HBO finale, lots has changed in the dating world. Twitter is a thing, Facebook is a thing, and I think we can all agree that Samantha would have LOVED Tindr. While the lessons on Sex and the City are still pretty flawless, how well did the visuals of the show stand up?
Carrie would have known everyone was running late to her birthday if her voicemail machine was in a cell phone and not plugged into the wall in her apartment.
Speaking of cell phones, they used to fold.
And Macs weighed 10 pounds.
Smoking was still allowed everywhere.
And being ‘online’ was something you only did once or twice a day as opposed to constantly.
Miley Cyrus’ hair was long and her tongue was hidden.
Payphones were plentiful and useful.
But the timelessness of the show definitely outweighs the outdated technology. Dating is still the worst.
Self doubt plagues us all.
Running into an ex is enough to make you consider becoming a shut-in.
Friends still need to slap friends with the truth sometimes.
While there is no good way to break up with someone, a Post It should still never be an option.
Love is still awesome.
Women will always rue the day the man who broke their friend’s heart was born.
If you’re lucky enough to find love, whether it’s romantic or friendship, then life is wonderful.
And this will always be the best line.
