How goes?

I am listening to Curtis Mayfield in my headphones. I am always on about the old school music but if you don?t own any Curtis – get some soon, “change your life” as a friend of mine once told me. I am still feeling Kanye West as much as I was when he first dropped that weird pirated version of? College Dropout. Got one question though- what is with people saying Kanye West cannot rap? Just because he produces some hits, the guy gets this bad rap. Listen to ‘Last Call’ on College Dropout – that is rhyming or from Through The Wire:

I drink a boost for breakfast, an ensure for dizzert

Somebody ordered pancakes I just sip the sizzurp

That right there could drive a sane man bizzerk.

I never get tired of that song. Here are a few other things I am feeling since I am on the topic:

- Madvillian

- The Detroit Pistons

- The Raptors new GM?s Rob Badcock and Wayne “Hall of Fame” Embry.

- The Old School MuchMusic interview where Biz Markie calls the Beastie Boys a joke.

- James Brown and Ray Charles (legends)

- K-os- “B-Boy Stance” (Funky Drummer with some new school flare)

- Lloyd Banks- “On Fire” (can he keep 50 cent off a track?)

- The Rolling Stones- “Stray Cat Blues” (from Beggars Banquet)

Some things I am dreaming of:

- Dr. Dre releasing that “Detox” album

- A fresh new album from Jeff Buckley or a Biggie Smalls album, hell I?ll take a Fugees album.

- The female version of Mos Def or Kweli in hip hop.

- A new Prime Minister (that is not a Liberal, New Conservative or NDP leader)

- My Algonquin canoe trip in August.

As Debbie Gibson (she?s been Fishburned and is now Deborah) says the last part is “Only In My Dreams.”

Also I am a huge hoops fan so I am not sure if you heard all this stuff Larry Bird said about needing more “white guys” in the NBA , but really who cares? If you can shoot then you can play is what I say. If some little green guy from Uranus comes down and can drain the 25-foot shot, I say sign him.
