Have you been watching American Idol this season? (CTV Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursdays at 8pm Eastern Time) The ratings have been lower than past seasons but the controversy behind the contestants has been getting juicer!
There of course is the past career as stripper for David Hernandez and then Danny Noriega rants about how he “hopes Santa rapes your mom”. Yikes!
The show has been accused for the downfall of modern music, and for that matter, conventional television! But has the show contributed any good to society besides making money for FOX?
I say yes. And that’s for the creation of Afghan Star, which would have never have been made without the worldwide popularity of the Idol franchises.
These contestants are not just competing for record deals, but for the survival of their lives. The female contestants have had death threats on their lives but they continue to keep singing despite the fact they have to enter a building that is surrounded by guards with AK-47s. A far cry from the likes of Canadian Idol, but a huge step forward for Afghanistan where TV was banned not too long ago under the rule of the Taliban.

The ratings have not been lower, it’s about the same. Floating around 30 million, lowest 25 million.
Let’s face it, if anyone has ratings trouble it’s MuchMusic.. There are probably 12 people watching at any given time. Absolutely abysmal programming
