Will & Alex On MuchOnDemand - July 10, 2007

Sooo…illScarlett were on MOD this past Tuesday and after they chatted with Matte about all sorts of stuff, I snagged them in the green room for a quick gab about the making of their video for Nothing Special, which you can watch here.

Frontman Alex Norman had this to say:

We started filming at around 6am and we went up until about 5am the next day - it took almost 24 full hours to make the video! We did it at two separate locations - the outside set of the house is at a house in Etobicoke and the indoors (living room, kitchen, bedroom scenes) were done on a set. So we didn’t actually destroy someone’s kitchen!

The video was filmed at 3 frames per second. Twenty-four frames is standard. so when they play it back it’s moving eight times as fast as it actually did. That means we had to film the scenes eight times longer than they would have taken. I also had to do a separate take of me singing the song in actual time, and afterwards they digitally superimposed my mouth onto my face, in the same spot I was standing. They had to put dots on my face on my eyes and my nose, that acted as a point of reference for the computer. There was a lots of post production.

The last scene was actually one of the first scenes we shot, and we did the rest in a studio!

Oh…and don’t eff up the spelling of the band’s name. Will says: “It’s two Ts, one word - mess it up and we’ll kill your family!” But he said it with a smile.
