Blame it on ineptitude, blame it on snail-like reflexes, blame it on my return from Cancun… but I am officially the last person to write a blog on the Oscars. BUT IT MUST BE DONE. Onwards!
Soooo, didja watch? Hmm? I started off chipper enough – ice cream in hand mouth, flannels on, couch warm. Hugh Jackman won my heart with a great opening number. Tina Fey and Steve Martin caused me great joy with their intro to the Best Script categories. And Ben Stiller’s timely Joaquin Phoenix joke was a coup:
But in the end – maybe it was too much sugar, maybe it was the hour – but I crashed. As well as the show was orchestrated (probably one of the better shows in years), I just got SO BORED during all the technical categories. But I stayed til the bitter end… which actually wasn’t so bitter, cause Slumdog won Best Picture, and I approve. Didn’t they win everything? I think they even won Cutest Attendees. Come on, those kids were amazing in their little tuxes. I bet Angelina adopted one. I also bet I’m late on that joke train, too. Alas.
Best Moments:
* Hugh Jackman’s opening number (“Craigslist Dancers”)
* Tina Fey and Steve Martin (Fey: “It has been said that to write is to live forever.” Martin: “The man who said that is dead.”)
* Ben Stiller as Joaquin Phoenix.
* The time the 5 past Best Supporting Actress nominees came on stage and I thought they were going to announce themselves as the five final cylons.
* The Japanese guy who said, “domo origato, Mr. Roboto.”
* The Judd Apatow short.
Thoughts?
