The music industry is a’buzz about the possibility of a new record label being born - and the proud parents are Jay-Z and Apple’s Steve Jobs…? Macrumors.com is reporting that Jay-Z is leaving Def Jam Records and will help launch a “Super Label” under the popular Apple brand. And they are also reporting that Beyonce will probably follow suit once her contract with Sony has come to an end.
OK, now I’ll be the first to proudly admit that I’m a complete Mac-phile, and I’m all for Apple’s inevitable world domination (they make things that work well and look oh-so-purty), but I do think that this is finally going a bit too far. I mean, iThis and iThat is starting to give me a headache - do we really need an iLabel?

I think Apple is legally prohibited from starting their own label. The Beatle’s Apple records sued them eons ago and they were allowed to keep there name just as long as they never entered the music industry.
Though maybe since iTunes didn’t sink them they’re ready to flout that ruling even more.
