International TV Hit

Have you seen the show Zero Degree Turn (playing Monday nights at 10pm on Channel One in Iran, or YouTube. It’s soo addicting and the highest rated show in Iran. It’s basically a love story between a Iranian-Palestinian Muslim man and a French Jewish woman, starring the popular Shahab Hosseini (The Fifth Reaction, Poisonous Honey). The premise is that a Muslim man is helping Jews escape from the Nazis during WWII.

What’s most shocking though, is that it’s playing on Iranian national network (Channel One) and being completely funded by the Iranian government. It’s ironic because the President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has made comments about the Holocaust being false! He is also the one that has famously said that there are no gays in Iran! This is such a hot topic worldwide that international news agencies like CNN and The Wall Street Journal have picked up on it.

I wonder if this show is a sign that Iran is moving in a positive direction. What do you think?
