UPDATE: Reps for the singer have released the following statement: “We would like to reiterate that Adele is to undergo surgery for a hemorrhaged vocal chord…all reports regarding any other condition are 100 percent false.”

Adele’s health was the center of attention today. Reps for the singer had not yet released any official statement if she’s resting, if there’s more damage than just a voice hemorrhage, or if there’s more serious damage.

Here’s how rumours about her health started: earlier this month Adele cancelled two shows for treatment of a vocal cord hemorrhage. She then went on to cancel the rest of her North American tour after revealing she was having more issues with her throat, saying “I have absolutely no choice but to recuperate properly and fully, or I risk damaging my voice forever“. It was then revealed Adele would undergo surgery to her throat.

Twitter, the ever-reliable source of instant updates, had this hashtag trending: #prayforadele. This sprung up after rumours vocal cord hemorrhages do not need surgery (apparently they only require rest) and Adele is allegedly going under the knife to treat a form of throat cancer.

Reps for the singer have not denied these rumours, instead offering this statement: “Doctors have ordered her to rest her voice and completely recuperate before looking to schedule any work commitments.”

So is it vocal cord hemorrhages or throat cancer that’s causing Adele to have surgery? Hopefully her reps will respond directly to these rumours and set all of her fans’ minds (and Twitter accounts) at ease.
