Jay-Z and U2 Pay Tribute to New Zealand Miners

November 26th, 2010

U2 and Jay-Z paid tribute to 29 miners killed in an explosion in New Zealand during their stop in Auckland on Thursday night. It was the first stop on their Australian/ New Zealand tour together.

Jay-Z was the first up and said to the crowd, “They will always be in our hearts and they will always be forever young.”

Headliners U2 paid homage to the miners by playing “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” and “One Tree Hill” as the miner’s names scrolled across the screen behind them. Bono said to the audience, “People deal with grief in all sorts of ways. In Ireland, we sing.”
