When you think of Jay-Z you automatically link him to hip-hop as his music of choice. But, as we’ve learned over the years, Hova’s taste ranges from nu-metal (remember his collabo with Linkin Park?), Britrock (what about his cover of Oasis’ “Wonderwall”?) and his current fixation, indie rock (he’s all over Grizzly Bear and Beach House, y’know).
Speaking with Rolling Stone, the rap mogul revealed his favourite songs of all time and none of them are of the hip-hop or indie rock kind. Here they are in descending order…
5. Aretha Franklin “Respect”
4. Marvin Gaye “What’s Going On”
3. John Lennon “Imagine”
2. The Rolling Stones “(Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”
1. Bob Dylan “Like A Rolling Stone”
So… I guess what we’ve learded is that Jay-Z likes the classics. That’s not very exciting, is it?
