JEFF the Brotherhood are releasing their first major label record, produced by Black Key’s frontman Dan Auerbach. The two-piece slop rockers from Nashville put out a record which is surprisingly tight. It draws most of its comparisons to Pinkerton-era Weezer, when Weezer was at its grungiest. As expected from a JEFF-Auerbach collaboration, the album breaks down into some extended jams and noise breaks. Also, as the title suggests, Hypnotic Nights offers some psychadelic sitar and phaser warbles. The album ends with a trippy cover of Black Sabbath’s Changes.
